The Party Barn as it was referred too

The Party Barn was a structure my Dad authorized me to build in the summer of 2010 just after the pool was finished. It is a 14' wide by 16' long gable roofed shed. Build from rough-cut lumber from a local milling operation, the total materials cost for this structure, including slab was about $3,500.00. That was the only way I convinced my dad into letting my build it at the time. The photos exhibit the day by day work and you can see, for example what went into prepping of the site for a slab and the beginning and end results, pretty fun build for a 17 year old. I did have the guidance of a contractor family friend, Micheal, who came by before his work every morning around 7:00 to give me the low down on how to do everything on each day. The cupola was an afterthought of my dads. One thing I learned with that was do not build too heavy because we had to hoist it up to the peak of the roof copper and all, it worked out but it could have been easier!

These are the plans I was given to build mine off of. These came from a garage kit draft plan. So I built mine and took it down the street from my house to a local metal-works shop to have them put a copper for a roof on it.

Hardwood Flooring

This is the kitchen, living room area of my house that my Dad and I decided to put hardwood floors in. We used solid oak hardwood planks, Bruce brand, I had no complaints with the flooring at all. It was a time consuming task especially when it came to coping around and through doorways but, it gave my Dad the opportunity to buy these tools for his inspired son. Tools required: finish gun, compressor, pneumatic flooring nail gun, wall shims, corded multi-tool, rubber mallet, pry-bar, chalk line, hammer, ear plugs, goggles, chop saw, table saw and 2 1/2" flooring nails and finish nail. I drafted up these plans in my drafting class for the whole home, but focused on the kitchen area so an accurate idea could be reached of this job.

My First Inspiration to Do!

When I was younger i had gone through a spell of thought-filled months and that might sound weird but I was thinking a lot and a way I found to cope with it was becoming a person who sees the world in all colors. I needed to find purpose and this was the first way i found to give meaning to my life. I grew up in a one-hundred year old Queen-Ann Victorian home which had lots of places in it that needed work and my father being a veterinarian he didn't feel the same ambition for house held renovations as it did. My name is Jonathan and like to do things. This is the first entry for my blog for school, and because i am proactive about my hobbies and the assortment of things i like to do, not everything I exhibit on this site will be all made of wood necessarily, but for people looking to hire me on  professional building and carpentry level they have a well rounded idea of my skill set and can therefore decide if i am qualified for the job.. As for school it is required that i have a blog site where my work can be exhibited, so here it is, this work is from the summer of 2010 and i will have several projects from that year and then current ones. Stay tuned, i am always busy.
